Party stoppers
59when politicians lead th charge in incivility
Now that the "Health Care Bill" has passed, What now?. Politicians should put on jeans and polo shirts when they are having an "average American" debate. It's very hard to take them to be serious about speaking for the average citizen. There they are, standing in front of a podium, surrounded by other people in suits, and a back drop that looks like the courthouse. Under certain circumstances, an average person would not believe that this group of people is doing charity work. Instead, they might assume that they are holding a press conference to announce a new business venture.
If you listen to their comments you wouldn't think that they are talking about an average,or hard working person. Representing Americans while using rhetoric that separates its people is irresponsible. This country is full of people with different ideas. We should continue to debate issues, it helps with the democracy. Legislatures should disagree using their vote and not divisive speeches. Demonizing the opponent does not help in a legitimate process. Keeping the civility in an argument strengthens the position. If one side suffers a loss they should reread their notes on effective arguing.
After another year and bad tone, the health bill will be implemented. Whether you are on the opposing on supportive side of the issue, as as citizen; demand that your representation present their arguments in a professional and compassionate way. Otherwise, they should refrain from assuming that they speak for the average citizen. In contrast, most of the citizens in the United States are good and civil people.
